High Impact Tutoring in Schools

Applying to school districts to provide high impact tutoring in schools is a great revenue stream for tutoring providers.

Therefore, knowing which states provide funding for tutoring is the first step in applying for a contract to provide high impact tutoring.

What is High Impact Tutoring

Sometimes called high dosage tutoring, according to Stanford’s Student Support Accelerator high impact tutoring can be defined as:

“Tutoring is a form of teaching, one-on-one or in a small group, towards a specific goal. High-impact tutoring leads to substantial learning gains for students by supplementing (but not replacing) students’ classroom experiences. High-impact tutoring responds to individual needs and complements students’ existing curriculum.”

Additionally, American Progress published a report in January 2024 that high dosage tutoring is now crucial to the academic success of all students. Most importantly, citing that high dosage tutoring increases students’ learning by an additional three to fifteen months across grade levels. Moving an average student from the 50th percentile to the 66th percentile.

States Providing Funding for Tutoring

Sanford Student Accelerator also provides a snapshot, including maps of all states providing funding for tutoring.

What’s more, under the maps you will find a state by state summary, listing funding and general usage. Reach out to your state Department of Education of local school districts for additional information and how to apply.

Proven Efficacy & Results

An article on Education Week that I read recently details how some school districts are trying a new approach for states providing funding for tutoring. That is to say that payments will be tied to results.

Therefore, it is imperative that you can prove that your tutoring program is effective. Furthermore, you will need to illustrate those results when you apply for a contract and during high impact tutoring.

Using a system such as Oases allows you to test students before and after tutoring services and then report on score, percentage and grade level equivalency gains.

  • Test before tutoring services.
  • Create an Automatic Learning Plan from the student’s areas of weakness in the test. Allowing you to be sure your tutoring will have the greatest impact.
  • Pull Progress Reports aimed at the goals on the learning plan.
  • Test after services for full student gains.
  • Pull reports of student test gains for a location or contract.
